fun, fabulous, finish it, fit... friday.

i know, i know - it's Thursday.
But i have Fridays on my mind.
i think i'm gonna finally make the leap to a 4 day schooling week.
Maybe that sounds crazy when i already described our work load, but after sifting & measuring my options - i'm thinking this sounds like the right option for us.
In the past - (& in looking at my schedule for this year) - i have always felt like a playdate, trip to the library, dentist appointment, sick day - *whatever* - would completely throw us off course.
This year, i'm adding in a 'catch up' day to the mix.
When i asked Neil about it, he said, "there's not even anything to think about - you've gotta do it".
Fridays will still hold some school, some catch up, some field trips, some cleaning, some organizing, some read-alouds, some playdates, some baking, some art, some extra music, some picture taking, some snuggling babies, some exercise...
but they won't hold to the same type of routine that the rest of the week will hopefully have.
i'm excited to add this to our school week - i think it's going to benefit us all.

love this idea...we had Friday off last year and loved it! That is, regular schooly school...this year it will be the day we go to the city and Silas does his handbells class in the morning (we'll do grocery shopping then)as well as gym in the afternoon...I sure hope the other two embrace this schedule...little nervous about it as we'll be heading to the city in rush hour and leaving in rush hour, PLUS planning ahead for our erev shabbat meal! May need the crock pot more this year! lol

I think its a great idea!!

I also just stoped reular school on Firdays. But for me its beacuase Sabbth is our rest day and I use Firday to do my weekly cleaning and cooking extra food for Sabbtah. It was just way to much for me to try to do a full day of school school and yet clean.

So now we do school on Sundays- Thurseday and have off Fiday and Sabbath. I felt a need for 5 days of school. Although Thuresdays we really only manage a half day beings thats our park day for our hoeschool group.
I'm exctied for you!!!

So, how will you incorporate that? Longer school days on Monday through Thursday? Longer terms? I love the idea, and your words about being fearful of being thrown "off" ring way true for me...

Sort of, Mindy - i just did the math - for instance, Sloan, Cai & Peyton all have around 125 math lessons in their books... works out to 12-13 lessons/mo for 10months. if we include extra days for catching up, for testing etc... we should *still* be able to accomplish 13 lessons/mo using only 4 days (they can all do 1 lesson/day). If we do 1/day we'll be way ahead anyway 'cause in a typical month we'd still have around 18 "school" days...
i also think that those Fridays are going to prove to be very important learning days. Baking, art, music, catch up etc... - really shouldn't be shoved aside just to get to a certain point by a certain date. i think giving myself an extra day every week to make sure those important things happen is gonna be so valuable in the long run...
