Life is Love - x3

The view from the corner of that sidewalk is now familiar to me as we stand and stamp our feet to keep the cold at bay.
It's colder today than either of the other days i've gone - like there's a bite in the end of March air.
i got a comment on my blog the other day suggesting i should mind my own business... & i'm sure that's a sentiment that others share- so i'll share my response here -

yeh, i get where you're coming from, anonymous - but the problem is that we do have a responsibility to stand up for the weak and defenseless- in this case - the teeny vulnerable unborn ones. i really believe that the mama's are vulnerable too - & if they were aware that there is a support system for them to choose better; many of them would. To look the other way in their moment of anguish would - in my eyes - be unloving...

i care about women in crisis - hey... i *was* a woman in crisis at one point. Praying for them - on a cold sidewalk in March as they go through what could be the scariest day of their lives is the least i can do.

I understand what you're saying but I do believe that the support and help do not exist for the majority of women.
We, as the church, are not stepping up to help the kids left in crisis. I work in the foster care system. The revolting things that happen to these children, some wanted and many not, leave me in tears on a weekly basis. I can not belive the harm that is done to some of them.
There are 30,000 children in Canada wanting to be adopted. There are thousands in the foster care system that need love, stability and healing. There are so few foster parents in Calgary that kids are actually being sent to BC and Sask.
I completely agree that abortion is wrong but I also think that more Christians need to be actively involved in ministering to these kids and giving them forever families. Saving thousands more by not having them aborted is a worthy cause and goal in and of itself. But what then, when we leave these kids to fend for themselves...many who end up in the system and get more and more damaged. We have to be willing to do both...save them from death and then rescue them from being unloved, unwanted and cast aside. We have to be ready and willing to love those kids.
It seems the noble goal is to minister to orphans around the world, go on a mission trip, adopt from another country, etc...but as a 'church' we need to also minister, love and adopt those in our backyard.
I do realize that many women that choose not to abort will love and care for their little ones and they won't end up in the system...I'm definitely not referring to those!

i agree, anonymous -
It's hard that the government has had to step in & create a broken system like the foster care programs that exist when the church should have been doing more to rescue these needy ones.
i think it stems from an unwillingness to be open to life. If we could somehow open our hearts and lives to imagine reaching out beyond our 'comfort zone' - imagine the impact that we could have...

I haven't commented yet, but I love that you're doing this, Paige. And also that you're doing it with such a peaceful, loving attitude. Keep following the Spirit's leading...

Except, our wonderful gov't has it set up so that being able to foster/adopt children in our own country is so difficult-it's no wonder there aren't more foster families!! I know of several people who desperately WANT to foster/adopt older children even, not just babies, and the legal crap and expense they have to go through... Our awful gov't makes it easier for these women to get abortions than to find loving homes for their babies... Our gov't needs a lot of changing!

But, my point, which I kind of omitted, is that, just b/c our system is totally screwed, doesn't mean that we should "MYOB" and look the other way.
