Different friend...
same clinic.
It has snowed & the path we walk is slushy and cold.
Her prayers affirm my spirit - and truth is spoken aloud in the frosty air...
Can i tell you a secret, blog readers?
i'm shy to go to the clinic...
i feel my cheeks burn just to blog about it.
and yet...
i wanna be...
obedient.
We pray for the couples arriving, for the women who pull up in taxi's, for the elderly woman driving her daughter. We pray for those who are choosing to abort because of a medical diagnosis - for those who find themselves in difficult unimaginable situations. We pray for the mama's - who must enter alone, for the sake of the privacy of the other patrons. We pray that they could sense - even from the other side of the street - our compassion & the love of Jesus. We pray that somehow... miraculously... the little lives lost today will still be given significance, and will be remembered and grieved in the years to come - giving them what now seems impossible...
A voice.
As our hour ends, three ladies arrive to take our places - and i want to weep with the knowledge that i'm united in purpose with those unknown women shyly standing on a slushy sidewalk holding their rosaries.
i wave at them from the window of my friend's vehicle as we drive away... and they wave back.
The door opens, and closes...

Are you involved with 40 days for life, or is it a church project, or something of your own organizing? I love to hear your thoughts on this.
i've signed up with 40 days for life. They've got it all organized with time slots (the bylaws limit the number of people that are allowed to gather - even for peaceful prayer).
i was kind of shocked that in a city as big as Calgary, the sign up sheet isn't full...
that is sad Paige, and yet could it be that it is not publicized enough? I didn't know about it until I read your blog...perhaps it needs to be promoted a bit more?? I'm gonna go do some research this week and see about getting more info to the various churches...it is SO SAD that the sign up sheet isn't full! Although, it isn't feasible for me to actually sign up, I can at least promote it!
LD - i'm SURE you're right. i wouldn't have known about it either if my friend hadn't emailed me. i'm *so* glad she did.
It is relatively *new* - & i think i read on the website that it's happening again in sept/oct? Totally worth talking about.
Sounds similar to what Alisdair and I did last year. We weren't at a clinic but stood on the corner of Idlwyld and 22nd Street in Saskatoon with other folk (some on each of the four corners) and held up signs advocating adoption and not abortion, and various other prolife slogans. Very interesting to see the reactions. Many cars honked and waved and you knew they felt the same as we do and then there were others that swore and gave us the finger. One girl even stopped her car and got out and made her own sign (pointing to us) that said we were crazy... But I trust even if some folk gather to pray at the clinic or hold a sign on a main thoroughfare, that it IS making a difference. How often do you go?

U should MYOB!
yeh, i get where you're coming from, anonymous - but the problem is that we do have a responsibility to stand up for the weak and defenseless- in this case - the teeny vulnerable unborn ones. i really believe that the mama's are vulnerable too - & if they were aware that there is a support system for them to choose better; many of them would.
To look the other way in their moment of anguish would - in my eyes - be unloving...
it's okay to be shy... and prayer does accomplish much. I love how the feminists for life say "women deserve better" than abortion - as long as it's a legal reality, women are forced into it by people who don't care enough about them to give them real help - instead, condemning them to carry the shame of killing their own child, for the rest of their lives. Women deserve better, our country deserves better.
