What does it matter? art

Art seems sort of pointless, doesn't it?
At least when i see the world through my husband's no nonsense eyes it does.
Art is on my mind.
i have cheques signed for music lessons for the year for my littles...
... and i have decided to commit the entire month of November for my own personal little "art" project.
Some would venture that i'm sacrificing too much... monetarily, of our time, effort and lives...
for art.
& yet there a little voice in me that whispers...
of the importance of this 'pointless' art.
i find myself wondering if art might sometimes be compared to a pair of eyeglasses... or a hearing aide... or a translator for every language.
& if i can create art - & teach my children to create art...
that speaks truth...
the impact could potentially be...
powerful.

Amen Paige. And Jesus knew the power of art. Look at how often he told a story to get his point across. Is there anything so powerful as a story, a picture or a piece of inspiring music? And it's true if we can paint truth through art....what an opportunity we have to share what is most important in life. So keep teaching those littles art...and truth. And I'm excited for your project!! Can't wait to hear more about it. God's given you an amazing gift of writing. your honesty and way with words draws me in. i'm glad you're doing this!!

I love that God created us all SO different! I love looking at a calm peaceful painting...but I have to admit most art I don't like. lol I'm too practical and no-nonsensical. Your money is not wasted Paige! We need "artsy-fartsy" people to brighten our days!!! lol

I am personally looking forward to studying ART with Alisdair - we got the Hands on History CD for the Old Master Artists. It makes a lapbook. So I have ordered books for now all 4 Renaissance painters - Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael and someone I'd never heard of named Hans Holbein (and I did a university level art history class). There is so much beauty out there to observe -- but I don't like modern art stuff - like a squiggle here and there on a canvas. If I think I could have drawn/painted it, I know it isn't Art!!
