girl power

"i think you're underestimating the power of little girls' friendships, hon... it has nothing to do with what you guys are doing - it has everything to do with what she imagines public school to be..."
"i know... i just kinda felt blindsided 'cause we haven't had any attitude problems, or complaints... i didn't see it coming. i have everyones registrations filled out - ready to hand in on Monday, so i told her we'll decide by then. It's funny - she said she knows she'd like public school 'cause she had a dream about it - & her teacher was really nice... she had long blond hair... i felt like shaking her, 'honey girl, that was me!!' "
"i think you know what the right thing to do is..."
That afternoon, some of our homeschooling books arrived in the mail...
She fingered her share longingly...

The child in question could always TRY the public system for the coming year and see how they like it. If it doesn't work out, you could then go back to homeschooling again. There were things I wanted to do as a kid and my parents wouldn't let me (like getting baptized, for example) and all these years later I still have regrets that we weren't given a little more freedom to make our own choices upon occasion...

The grass always looks greener on the other side... maybe it is good to be like Sharon and Bob's kids and experience both sides of the educational experience...

Good luck with whatever transpires...

Monday's coming!

Paige, I had another thought a few minutes ago... and you likely already know this, but I think it bears someone actually *saying* it to you...

If you and Neil and your girlie and God decide that public school is the right route for her, it does not mean that you have failed. You have not let anyone down. God knows your hearts desires, but He also knows that your heart is malleable and driven to serve Him. However that looks - and it might look differently from what you've envisioned - you have not failed. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to do what you are doing - not just homeschooling, but raising your littles after God's own heart. He has a very unique plan for each of them!! Right now, this includes both of you searching for Him in this confusion... :) He delights in you!

Much love,
M.
