first kisses...

The van is unusually quiet. Cai is picked up from Bow Valley Fiddlers & Gagey is almost asleep in his carseat as we stop at the church to pick up the rest of our rambunctious crew...
We have a few minutes before we need to go in, so we sit in the van, listening to the radio in the darkness.

Cairo: Mom, what if my very first crush doesn't feel the same way about me?
Mom: Well, yeh, that happens sometimes...
Cairo: That would be embarrassing...
Mom: Love by it's very nature is embarrassing though - putting yourself out there, wearing your heart on your sleeve...
Cairo: i bet you've never been embarrassed to love dad though.
Mom: i remember when he told me he liked me.
Cairo: Did you just jump up & say, "I LIKE YOU TOO??!!"
Mom: Yeah... Pretty much...
Cairo: What did HE say?
Mom: He said, "so, can i kiss you?" & when i said, "yes" he proceeded to give me the worst kiss that has ever been given... & then he said, "sorry, i was nervous..."
Silence.
Cairo: (giggling) That's so dad.

wow, very similar to my first kiss with my husband. Which was the very first kiss ever for both of us. It was terrible. We still laugh about it to this day. Miss you Paige!

Bwaaah ha ha ha!!

Oh, Paige...

My first kiss with Graeme was terrible, too. I was dropping him off at the airport, and we hugged, and then without warning he just kind of ZOOMED in, kind of like a dive-bombing bird. I turned away... he tried again, I turned away again... at which point I realized he wasn't going to give up. So I let him peck me on the lips and then I basically turned and left.

It was horrible. Not what I wanted a first kiss to be, at all. It was my VERY first kiss, ever. If you can even call it that.

I couldn't talk to him for two days.

When we did talk, I tearfully told him what I expected (umm, some notice, even permission!)... :)

And then there were my Mother's instructions about kissing... maybe you want to share them with Cairo!! You are supposed to hold your elbows out in front of your breasts and then hug the significant others with your hands on their neck. That way they supposedly don't get overstimulated... I wouldn't exactly call it a comfortable position!! But this is coming from the woman who warned me never to let any boys get their "machinery near me" (seriously!) - her words for the male anatomy! So I avoided farm equipment, lawn tractors etc. ever since.

Good you can have good conversations about these kind of topics with your girls... so much better than beating around the bush!

My husband was very reserved when we first started dating, so kissing was a touchy subject. The night he officially made me his girlfriend, we stood in his driveway to say goodnight. I felt him kiss me on the forehead, so I took that as a sign that he wanted something more. So I lifted my face and planted one on his lips. His whole body immediately froze. Talk about awkward! I was so embarrassed.

However, he decided two weeks later that he was ready for the real thing, and the kiss he laid on me nearly made my shoes melt. It's still the best kiss I've ever had!
